Almeria is a province of Spain located on the south east coast bordering the famous Mediterranean Sea. Almeria covers an area of 8,774km2 and the population of Almeria currently stands at 190,000. The geography of Almeria is quite varied, ranging from sandy beaches with clear waters to deserts and mountain ranges.

The naturally dry climate of Almeria makes it a haven for those that want to escape the rain. Almeria having some of the clearest skies in Europe, averaging 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, makes it an ideal spot for solar power generation (Almeria is home to the largest solar plant in Europe, Solar Platform of Almeria) and astronomers (Almeria is also home to one of the most powerful telescopes in Europe).

The population of Almeria has been growing for the past 50 years and attributed to the growing tourism industry attracting more workers and also from expats who have chosen to retire in the region. This is one positive indicator for buying property in the Almaria region.

Having been ruled by various civilisations, the province of Almeria has had a colourful history and has consequently been left with rich culture and art.
