Italy is in South Central Europe bordering to the north with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. To the south of
Italy, it consists of the entirety of the Italian Peninsula with Sicily and Sardinia being the two largest islands in the
Mediterranean Sea. There are also many smaller islands. The capital city is Rome where two famous and successful

and Spain third. Tourism is on the increase and accounts for just over 43 million tourist with total receipts estimated
at just over $38 billion. Italy’s rapid growth in tourism places them the fifth most visited country and highest earner in
the world.

Italy has a long sporting tradition, having a good representation and many successes. The Italians are mad about
their football and won the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and are the second most successful football team in the world, after
Brazil, having won four FIFA World Cups. Italy has also got strong traditions in basket ball, volleyball, cycling, tennis,
athletics, fencing, winter sports and rugby. Italy also boasts in having the oldest and most successful team in
Formula One Grand Prix racing. The Italian Scuderia Ferrari team having competed since 1948 boasts a record of 15
drivers' championships and 16 constructors' championships.

Italy is famous for many things and passionate about their football (too many teams to name), cars food and olive oil
just to name a few. Oh and don’t forget the wine! Having vineyards in the hilly area of Langhe and Piedmont, making
Italy the World’s top wine producer.
