Natal is a large City situated in the North East of Brazil and is the state capital of Rio Grande do Norte and has a population of over 806,000 people and is recognised as the safest city in Brazil.
The Natal airport is named; Augusto Severo International airport and is totally air conditioned. The terminal has 4 jetways, and is capable of handling 1.5 million passengers annually with park facilities for 500 cars. Interesting to note; Natal will open their second major international airport and is due for completion in 2012. The ‘Sao Goncalo do Amarante’ is expected to be the largest airport in Latin America and the seventh largest in the world. According to Dow Jones News Wire, the new airport will have a capacity for 40 million passengers.
Natal is one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for which Brazil is the host. Ex President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva said, ‘soccer is more than a sport for us, it’s a national passion’. Brazil has won the World Cup on five occasions. They certainly have the credentials for this great sporting event.

- The Maracajau beach is 7 kilometers of coast that is famous for its coral formations and natural pools of crystalline waters. Situated 50 kilometers from Natal with a population of only 2,000 people with the main source of income being fishing and tourism. - The Genipabu beach is an area on environmental protection and is famous for its sand dunes, lagoons, natural beauty. With its blue and calm waters, has a strong attraction for many tourists. - Ponta Negra and Via Costeira is a famous beach of Natal. This area of beach is unurbanised. There are shops, restaurants, bars and night clubs. The sand itself is lined with huts that serve food and drinks day and night. You will also see many local working fishing boats. From Ponta Negra tou can connect to many other beaches of Natal. - Pipa Beach is located 85 km from Natal. Although completely away from urbanisation, it’s known as paradise and attracts thousands of tourists every year.
The North of Brazil is warmer than the South, although warm all year round, the hottest months are December and January with an average high of 31°C and low of 24°C. The coolest month is July. However, the average high is still 27°C.
