Trikeri Island - location description:
The island of Trikeri, in the south of Pagasitic gulf and at the tip of the Magnesia peninsula, is particularly beautiful and remains, architecturally at least, more or less unchanged since the beginning of the century.
The island is located inside a large sheltered gulf, which is a haven to many forms of wildlife and is perfect for sailing, fishing and snorkelling.
It measures about 4 km by 800 metres and motorized transport is forbidden (no roads, no cars), transport is by foot, donkey or boat, however everything is within walking distance.
This scenic island is a tiny and tranquil haven where you could easily forget you were living in the 21st century. The island’s only village “Agios Ioannis” has a couple of tavernas, cafe, bar and a mini market with all that you need.
Rustic and simple, the village is a pretty place where the locals are incredibly hospitable and welcome newcomers.
Following the coastal paths, it is possible to walk around the island in half a day. There are a plethora of sandy bays and coves to be found around the entire coastline: Trikeri, Pithos and Ai Giannis are pebble, while Afetica, Ai Giorgis, Pithu and Agia Sophia and Prasini Ammos are sandy and pebble.
The location is perfect for boat lovers as you can moor up for free.
The island is within the Pagasitic gulf, so the waters are mostly exceptionally calm.
The nearest point of mainland is 5 minute boat ride away. You can explore the beautiful mountains of the Pelion and visit the white sandy beaches of the Aegean on the other side.
There are many interesting tours which are possible in a days drive, taking in the mountain villages.
The Trikeri boat-taxi will collect you even late at night if you make arrangements before you leave. Days are spent swimming, snorkeling, fishing, walking or relaxing with a good book.
How to get to Trikeri Island.
The easiest way to get to the island is to fly direct to Volos and then you can either drive around the whole of Pelion (around 1 ½ hrs by car) or take a water taxi (30 minutes from Volos).
